Greetings from Kate:

As we edge into the colorful days of fall and last months of 2007, KTDC will celebrate our clients with a party on October 4 (details later) to thank you for your confidence, friendship and making coming to work each day so much fun.

Meanwhile, in this e-Newsletter, you’ll meet some of the folks with whom we collaborate. Jozefina Cutura is a client, engaged in good works, and Lydia Demian helps KTDC build websites for our clients.

Remember: If you’re looking for video, public relations, marketing, and/or writing and editorial services, we’re a one-stop shop through our Virtual Studio.

Enjoy!  Kate Tallent, Principal kate@katetallentdesign.com

Modern Signal Takes the Mystery out
of Web Development

No wonder there’s so much talk today about the Web as a darling of communications tools.  With one CLICK, visitors have information at their fingertips, and with more CLICKs, you can tell them all about your organization’s programs, services, good deeds and events.

So how does this happen? And, how do you move visitors from place to place in virtual space? It’s simple, says Lidya Demian, a project manager at Modern Signal, a company that develops websites. “We build the roads, and connect the data and the pages. When we work with KTDC, we translate their artwork into web-based language, and then put everything in place. We build a content management system that clients can use to update their content easily and as necessary. Think of it this way: KTDC designs the house, we build it and turn over the key to the client.”

When developing websites, Lidya advises clients to think of the site as their chance to give visitors a glimpse into their organization. The most important attributes of the site should be easy navigation, quick access to information and clear, simple, concise images and language.

After five years in the business, Lidya most enjoys seeing a project evolve from the concept to a finished product that an organization can use to deliver its message(s), recruit members and communicate with constituents.

Client Spotlight:
Gender Entrepreneurship Markets (GEM)
Creating Opportunities for Women

When Jozefina Cutura goes to work each day, she’s doing something to help women.

A program officer of World Bank Group’s International Finance Corporation (IFC), Jozefina produces communications materials and monitors laws in emerging countries that help to break down gender barriers in the business environment.

In Africa, for example, Jozefina is developing a “gender and mining tool kit” to help mining companies comply with IFC financial investment requirements that then open doors to women. The kit, being produced by KTDC, provides information to help them view women as an asset in the workforce, guidelines for recruiting and hiring women, and case studies to help them transition their business culture.

Raised in Bosnia, Jozefina came to the U.S. as a refugee. What attracts her to the work she does is based, in part, on her personal experiences growing up in a country where men were at war and the women had to support their families.

Jozefina is also working to create a stronger brand identity for the IFC’s gender program, and has hired KTDC to redesign their materials. She likes that KTDC is a woman-owned business, and of course, KTDC enjoys, “creating for causes we care about.”

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, fosters sustainable economic growth in developing countries by financing private sector investment, mobilizing capital in the international financial markets, and providing advisory services to businesses and governments. IFC’s vision is that poor people have the opportunity to escape poverty and improve their lives. In FY06, IFC committed $8.3 billion, including syndications, to 284 investments in 66 developing countries.
