Client Spotlight:
Website Makeover Lifts Smart Payroll Solutions to New Level

Call it rejuvenation. That’s what a new face and new technology can do for your website, says Martha Lambert, co-founder of Smart Payroll Solutions LLC (SPS), a Professional Employer Organization in Florida that offers payroll, Worker’s compensation, human resources, benefits and related services.

After comparing old to new, this writer agrees. The new site by Kate Tallent Design is better looking and interactive, thanks to the state-of-the-art content management system KTDC added. Now, clients can log on to a secure site, submit payroll information, file injury notices, view documents, and generate reports in real time. And, the back-end feature allows SPS staff to update text and graphics, customize client programs, respond quickly and offer top-quality service.

“We were looking to streamline our systems, increase our efficiency and raise our overall performance levels,” says Lambert. “KTDC has given us a powerful business tool and we’re already seeing the benefits.”

KTDC Virtual Studio Member Highlight:
Garfinkel + Associates’ Strength in Numbers Approach Yields Bright Writing

So, when are six heads better than one?

When they’re all brainstorming, strengthening each other’s copy or taking a divide-and-conquer approach to writing a large website, or other communication.

“It’s our uniquely collaborative approach that benefits our clients in so many ways,” says Steve Garfinkel, owner and president.

Garfinkel opened the business in 1990 after working with a leading Washington PR agency. As the business grew, more writers joined, bringing expertise from diverse backgrounds in journalism, magazine publishing, video production, international development and other fields.

Although the company’s clientele spans America, being based in metro Washington has yielded unparalleled opportunities with nonprofits and associations. The team has helped strategize donor outreach campaigns, conceptualize case statements, develop conference materials from speeches to proceedings, and even name new initiatives and organizations.

“It’s gratifying to work for the good guys and see the results in terms of support, awareness and money raised for a worthy cause,” said Steve Herndon, senior writer.

Garfinkel + Associates is a KTDC Virtual Studio partner. To learn more, visit http://www.katetallentdesign.com/about/virtualstudio.html

KTDC Contributes to “The Big Draw” at North Chevy Chase Elementary School

KTDC’s Kate Tallent and Will Bramlet will join other professionals on March 5 for a half-day “Big Draw” at Chevy Chase Elementary School in Maryland. During the event, third to sixth-graders trade their textbooks for sketchpads, and move from one station to another to draw alongside architects, postal stamp designers, portrait artists and graphic artists, and see how they work.

“This focus on art is a wonderful opportunity for the students at this technology magnet school to learn from practitioners in the field. Kate and I are glad to give our time to this kind of event we wish we’d had as youngsters,” says Will.

The “Big Draw” originated in the United Kingdom as part of a campaign to create awareness that drawing can be a public activity, not just a private passion. The first such event in America was last summer at the National Building Museum.

Patrice Gilbert Tells Stories with Photos

Early in her career, professional photographer Patrice Gilbert volunteered to teach photography to homeless children and her efforts, with others, resulted in an exhibit and book of children’s photos called Shooting Back. Years later, she volunteered again; this time snapping photos of foster children for Freddie Mac Foundation’s Heart Gallery project. In her full-time job, Patrice takes photos for national and international publications, non-profit and corporate clients to help them to tell their stories. She teaches environmental portraiture at the BU Center for Digital Imaging Arts in Washington. To see Patrice’s work, visit www.patricegilbertphoto.com.

Personalized URL’s Add Muscle to Your Direct Mail Programs

If you’ve received a letter or card in the mail recently, asking you to respond to a URL address with your name in it, you’re seeing one of the most effecting things in direct mail marketing. And, if you followed the link, you’d see why marketers use this tool to learn more about their constituents’ tastes, interests and lifestyles. Say, you want to make sure the fundraiser you’re planning appeals to your core supporters. You can use the personalized URL (mail-web approach) to determine the most appealing location, levels of interest (i.e. donor levels), and best time of the year to host the event. When your supporters respond, you’ll have accurate information that will facilitate your planning, increase revenue and make for a more successful event.

“That’s only one example”, says Greg Frazee of B & B Printing, who uses this tool to help his clients increase the response rate of their direct mail programs, identify the right prospects, convert leads to revenue and measure results in real time. To learn more, contact Greg at 804-794-8273, Toll Free: 888-224-2656 or gfrazee@bbprintnet.com, and don’t miss the free seminar he’s co-hosting with Kate Tallent Design in April.

Virtual Studio:
A Business Model for Today’s World

Kate Tallent Design & Communications works with a team of affiliates to provide the appropriate solutions tailored to each client.

By engaging the ideal professional for your project, we maintain a virtual studio. Depending on your project, we tap the skills of writers, public relations experts, translators, information architects, web developers or other creative people selected for their track record in their field.

Our cadre of affiliates focus on the projects where their skills and experience are best suited. This unique team approach ensures that your projects receive the attention of the most talented professionals around.

This business model uses technology to its fullest advantage for a seamless approach to build a winning team quickly.

Access to senior-level staff, rather than entry-level staff found at in-house agency teams, benefits clients for obvious reasons. The comfort of knowing all facets of a project are in the hands of the ideal expert, rather than the typical agency entry-level staff, ensures projects exceed client expectations time after time. Unlike the outdated agency approach that passes on the cost of a large in-house staff to the client, KTDC keeps costs low by cutting out the layers.

Project lead Kate Tallent ensures that all milestones are being met. The client has full access to all KTDC team members at any time. In-person meetings and conference calls are encouraged between our team and yours.

The Virtual Studio has a proven track record and we are happy to share success stories with you. Call us to learn more about how your organization can benefit from the consummate team approach.
