Giving Back

Giving BackKate Tallent Design & Communications' core principle is giving back to the global community using communication tools to foster and support development. On a 2003 trip to Ghana, Kate met with the Ewe people on Adaklu Mountain and volunteered to a pro bono redesign of a brochure for an eco-tourism venture.

Kate was so inspired by this experience that she decided her company would target a specific issue and country each year, locating a nonprofit in that country that needs assistance with its communications efforts. In 2005 Kate started in her own backyard, Washington, D.C., with the redesign of a Web site and the creation of a brochure for local nonprofit Brainfood, which teaches D.C. teens to prepare nutritious meals; the students then volunteer at food banks and shelters. In 2006 KTDC donated a booklet design to Solimar Travel for an eco-tourism venture in Costa Rica.
